Q: Constantine, why did you issue the edict of Milan?
A: When I became emperor in 312 BCE I issued he Edict of Milan, which granted freedom of worship for the citizens of Rome. Theodosius then made Christianity the official religion of Rome, which then allowed the church to grow in power. When I took the throne I continued the Diocletian’s reforms, granted acceptation for Christians, and I established a new capital called Constantinople.
